About Concept Carleton

Concept Carleton is a student-run and organized Industrial Design conference held annually at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario. Last year's theme was "Ideate" or ID8, celebrating our 8th year running Concept Carleton. Concept Carleton's goal is to share knowledge and provide the opportunity for students to learn from both professionals in their industry, and from other students. 

What can I expect?

Get ready to be inspired with talks from professionals, portfolio reviews, a discussion panel, and networking. 

  • Where will it be?
    Concept '25 is located on the 4th floor of Azrieli Pavilion.
  • Where can I buy tickets?
    Tickets can be purchased Here! (or under the events section)
  • Where can I park?

  • Can I get my portfolio reviewed?
    Yes! All attendees will have a chance to get their portfolios reviewed as long as you sign up ahead of time on our website!
  • Will there be food?
    Yes! We will provide lunch and snacks throughout the day.
  • How long will the event be?
    The event will go on from 9:30am until 4:30pm on Saturday Feb 8th and a half day on Sunday Feb 9th.

2025 SPEAKERS

As an Industrial Designer, Morna Gamblin has designed products that touch diverse aspects of life - from wearable tech to consumer electronics to search & rescue devices to housewares. Most recently, she has been designing medical devices at Starfish Medical.

 

Beyond design work, she has shared her design expertise, and enthusiasm, as an educator at Centennial and Humber Colleges, and through her YouTube channel, Design plus Morna, where she  explores the creative problem-solving tools that bring ideas to life.

Andrew Doxtater (b. 1994) is a Canadian Artist and Designer whose work bridges the worlds of functional design and sculptural artistry. With a focus on furniture and home goods, Andrew’s creations are known for their bold simplicity and innovative use of materials. His designs, including the viral Oval Rocker, merge form and function, captivating audiences across digital platforms and carving a niche in the design world. Andrew’s practice centers around creating thoughtful, purpose-driven objects that challenge traditional notions of design. Whether crafting one-of-a-kind commissions, limited-edition collections, or proof-of-concept pieces, his work reflects a dedication to storytelling and experimentation. His designs invite interaction, offering a harmonious balance between utility and artistic expression.

ANDREW DOXTATER

Rich Loen is a full-time artist in Ottawa, Canada. Rich founded InGenius and some other companies. He has been working full time as an artist since 2019. He built a studio space at 2207 Carling Avenue where he has a gallery, metal work shop, and woodwork shop.

“I like to combine my woodwork, metal work and software development experience, along with math, algorithms, and often mechatronics to create interesting, intriguing, thoughtful works.”

RICH LOEN

Stacey Lin is a multidisciplinary designer and Associate Creative Director at Reinvent the World, bringing six years of experience in service design, UI/UX, strategy, and branding. She uses her diverse background and skillset to craft impactful services, products, and brands for a wide range of clients including PepsiCo, Bending Spoons, and The United Way.

 

In addition to her design work, she also shares her knowledge with students and career transitioners as a UX instructor with Memorisely.

The 2024 Concept Carleton was themed 'Inspired Innovation' we had six incredible speakers from all backgrounds of Industrial Design, Architecture, Engineering and Business. We had the privilage to have Dean Johnson, Gabriella Schnarr, Anthony Morgan, Barbara Spanton, Ignacio Osorio, Rick Shean, Helena Achia, and Zakaria Adref.
